The Set for Success Awards 2024 celebrated students who have improved their skills or shown real courage or resilience through taking part, and teachers who have contributed significantly to the successful delivery of Set for Success in their schools.
The following winners were announced on Saturday 06 July 2024 at the Wimbledon Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Ace Award
Winner: Ewan from Argoed High School

This award recognises the Set for Success pupil who has made the most personal progress in their achievements across one year.
Individuals nominated for this award were asked to demonstrate improved...
- Attitude Towards Learning – display a positive and proactive attitude towards learning in both the Set for Success programme and wider school.
- Behaviour – have been recognised by others to have a positive change in behaviour.
- Life Skill Development – display the life skills they have developed through the programme, such as problem solving, communication and self-management not only through Set for Success but across wider school engagement.
Doubles Award
Winner: Lily from St John Bosco

This award recognises the Set for Success pupil who has offered the most support to their peers or buddy through the Set for Success programme. Being an excellent motivator and listening ear, quietly encouraging and supporting others around them to achieve.

- Collaborative Spirit – demonstrate a collaborative spirit by actively participating in group activities/discussions and helping their peers to navigate challenges.
- Encouragement –offer quiet encouragement and positive encouragement to those around them, contributing towards a positive learning environment.
- Active Listening – Display empathetic listening skills and providing a compassionate ear to peers, creating a safe and supporting environment.
Rally Award
Winner: Phoebe from Argoed High School

This award recognises the Set for Success pupil who has maintained the most effort throughout the programme, overcoming challenges and demonstrating resilience.

· Commitment to Personal Growth – show active engagement in the programme, showcasing dedication to personal development and self-improvement.
· Consistent Effort – Demonstrate consistent effort and commitment to the programme.
· Overcoming Challenges –have overcome personal or school based challenges and obstacles, showcasing determination and resilience.
Game, Set, Match! Award
Winner: Kyle from Alva Academy

This award recognises the teacher/teachers or school staff individual(s) (some do operate as a pair) who have been supporters, motivators and challengers of their pupils to provide the best programme experience. Championships are not won on Centre Court, but instead in practice. This award celebrates the special staff that provide those invaluable practice environments which enables young people to be set up for success in life.

· Supporting and Motivating – an individual that has provided a high level of support for students and motivated/inspired them throughout their participation in Set for Success.
· Effective and Organised – be a member of staff that has been organised and effective in the delivery of all teacher and Athlete Mentor sessions and has communicated well with Athlete Mentors and the Youth Sport Trust.
· Collaborating with Athlete Mentors – Actively collaborating with the Athlete Mentors to create a well-rounded learning experience.
· Fostering a Positive Attitude – Encouraging positive attitudes towards school and learning/behaviour and create a positive learning environment for students.
